IF
YOU ARE A SERIOUS WIFFLER, YOU KNOW BRAND
NEW BALLS DO NOT HAVE ANY MOVEMENT.
Just like in the Major Leagues, pitchers DO NOT use a brand new
ball. Each ball is rubbed with special mud and broken in before
each game. The balls are than given to the umpires for game use.
The mud takes the slickness off the ball and allows the ball to
have better movement and also makes the ball a few shades darker
which makes it harder for batters to see.
“If you get a ball right out of the box,
it’s just no good,”
1991 Associated Press quoting
Mike Palinczar
Now Mike Palinczar, five time National Champion and MVP pitcher,
shares his secrets with the Wiffle®Ball World. The Wiffleczar
personally breaks in each ball the exact way he breaks in his custom
ball before taking the mound in Championship games!
